Cerebrovascular Society of India is a society comprising of Neurosurgeons, Interventional Neuroradiologists and Neurologists dedicated to the management and research in the fields cerebrovascular surgery and stroke. The purpose of the CVSI is to advance skills, education, research and patient care in the area of cerebrovascular disease. The society was established with an objective to enhance education, research and knowledge on cerebrovascular pathologies and stroke.
I am deeply honoured to serve this esteemed society as its President. Cerebrovascular surgery as of today has attained newer definitions. These also include not just aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations, but also low flow and high flow bypass, preventive surgeries for stroke, surgery for highly vascular tumours etc.
The cerebrovascular ‘surgeon’ today faces a greater challenge to encompass all these definitions. Still greater questions remain. Should the surgeon also perform interventions? Should the surgeon just sub-specialize in cerebrovascular surgeries? How can education and training be enhanced in centres which do little or no cerebrovascular surgeries?
These questions become more significant with passing time. Here, the society carries an important responsibility to not just answer these questions, but also create a better platform for greater dissipation of knowledge, skills, research and training.
It is time, that as a unified society, we become strong enough to move forward in this path.
